Established in 2004 under PL 214 as an autonomous entity, the Puerto Rico Science, Technology & Research Trust stimulates innovation, technology commercialization and the creation of high-technology jobs in Puerto Rico's targeted industry sectors such as: Life Sciences, Alternative Energy, Environmental & Agricultural Sciences, Computer Science & Information Technologies and Aerospace & Aeronautics, among others.
We encourage you to explore the many technology development and commercialization initiatives designed to help researchers, scientists, inventors, technology entrepreneurs, university officials and investors rapidly meet their business development objectives. These programs respond to the needs of our innovative-minded technology entrepreneurs and represent areas where public and private sector collaboration accelerates successful implementation.
- Dramatically increase the number and quality of Federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grants awarded to local small technology based small businesses.
- Within the next five years, at least double the number of patents awarded to local inventors and the number successfully commercialized.
- Help local universities accelerate the development and commercialization their new technology.
- Help develop, retain and attract world class researchers/scientists to Puerto Rico.
- Help technology entrepreneurs accelerate the development and
commercialization of their innovative technology.
- Find innovative ways to meet the capital needs of Puerto Rico’s
start-up technology firms.
- Develop and maintain reliable databases to help formulate Science and Technology oriented public policies and identify additional information needed for Puerto Rico to be competitive with other knowledge-based economies.

Science District Activities
The advancement of the Science District development project is key to Puerto Rico’s knowledge-based economic development strategy. The TRUST is currently engaged in the following activities to assure the Science District becomes a reality:
- Complete design of the Science City site.
- Commence development of Science City.
- Build a knowledge related and high-technology incubator facility.
- Promote Science District incentives available to developers and investors interested in participating in the development of the project.
