THE SPIRIT
OF THE LAW
The
Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust was
created by Law Num. 214 of August 18, 2004. The
fact that it received full support from variety of public
and private sectors – as well as support from
a wide range of related industries – is proof
of Puerto Rico’s commitment to science. The Island
recognizes that the economic paradigm of the 21st Century
is strongly based on research and development, including
biotechnology, engineering, information technology,
life sciences, and innovation.
Objectives – The
Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust:

• Promote the financing of research, development, and
infrastructure projects in the fields of science and technology.
In turn, these projects will drive economic, social and educational
growth for Puerto Rico.
• Act as a strategic liaison between the public sector,
private business, and academia.
• Provide the necessary resources and proper climate
in order to retain our science professionals and attract specialists
from all over the world.
• Help drive the commercialization of ideas and innovation
vis-à-vis transfer technology programs.
• Establish an infrastructure, funds, and a mechanism
to effectively implement an integrated and viable model for
the development of a science research zone in Puerto Rico.
